Really valuable feedback here, appreciate it. Martin, thanks for starting this thread.
For locked down environment Binadox can still be valuable managing Terms of Services (ToS) of SaaS subscriptions - as Martin mentioned. Employees can subscribe to SaaS from any device which has an access to the web, even from devices locked for installation, at home or a noncorporate mobile device. Binadox captures the usage of SaaS on an organizational machine. Even if the agent hasn't been there to capture the registration event, the license agreement can be fetched automatically from the Binadox licenses DB or uploaded manually. In any case, there will be a notification about a usage of a particular SaaS to be reviewed by the IT, SAM or legal departments.
Ian, regarding your comment on software engineering. Absolutely right! From our experience, software development organizations tend to monitor installations and usage. At the same time, they allow their developers to install and try different software instances due to the software dynamic nature of the work. Binadox notifies about new installations in real time and allows configuring a policy regarding which installations are allowed and which denied.
Dawn, great point noticed, Binadox does enable “easy review of EULAs for people new to SAM or ITAM” as it features a web viewer where the EULA is translated into a unified, readable format. It divides the text into paragraphs, highlights common licensing topics (David, this might be related to content flagging, as you mentioned), provides an index of legal definitions and allows different levels of text summarization which ease navigation and comprehension of the agreement.
Considering that each license can have its own caveats which can endanger the organization, each and every new license should be reviewed, although I agree it's a tedious job. Binadox can make that job easier. For example, finding the similar agreements (which were already reviewed) and then comparing and concentrating on the actual contextual differences.
Regarding the pros and cons of having another agent installed on employee’s device. Often there is simply no other way to make it agentless when need to deliver a required functionality. The value Binadox delivers could prevail over such inconvenience as having another agent installed. Having said that, it’s on our roadmap to integrate with other inventory solutions soon.
To sum it up, this short (3 minutes) video is a demo of the whole workflow, starting from capturing SaaS subscription event and its license, through notification to the IT / SAM, and the actual review capabilities of the license agreement. https://www.binadox.com/r/saasdemo1
