I heard this week someone was quoted £1,400 a day (UK Sterling) for an IBM consultant to get ILMT working. Also heard that there ILMT as a service available within Amazon's cloud. It's a nice cash cow, when sub-capacity monitoring using ILMT a contractual requirement, compliance penalties if you get it wrong, admin headache and expense if you get it right.

ILMT is one of only a few tools that IBM will accept for a customer to gain sib-capacity pricing. The ILMT tool is free of charge so has (probably) historically lacked investment within IBM as there is no beneficial return to IBM in investment. That said, they have now released v9 which is distinctly different to previous versions and is based around their BigFix architecture. ILMT v7 will go end of life in April 2017 and will not be supported from that time on. ILMT v7 has had problems and many organisations have had PMRs on reporting issues. I have managed to get the reporting working but regularly encounter reporting errors which we have to take back to IBM. Their focus is on ILMTv9 so getting enhancements/error fixes to ILMT v7 can take time. Hopefully ILMT v9 will address known problems in previous versions and be more user friendly in its use.

My opinion is if IBM wanted to fix this tool and make it perfect, they could. But it drives alot of revenue, so do they really need to fix it?
