David, hopefully the "beastly year" comment was an unintended pun!!
An ideal world achievement would be to have all deployed software reporting through a single system which contains all contractual data/usage rights with both updated in real time and fully compliant scenarios reported.
However, having not had a drink since new year, realism is more prominent this week than it maybe was over the festive season when everyone is filled with hope, joy, dreams and expectations (often fuelled by too much alcohol!).
So for 2017, my aims are to build on the infrastructure we have established for ITAM & SAM as a community. This will include:
helping the wider ITAM & SAM community continue its journey along the road to success and recognition as a vital part of the IT and business communities;
pushing the ITAM & SAM product companies/developers to provide new additional functionality that helps the likes of you and me in our roles to be more productive through improved automation and reporting capabilities;
pushing the ITAM & SAM managed service provides to up their game (again) and come up with new ways in which they can help their customers and communities understand their estates, the risks within their estates and how to mitigate those risks;
to work with vendors to try and find ways in which we can work with them proactively to report usage of software on a regular basis without the risk of retribution, audit and penalties for misuse of software that is more often than not unintentional or from a misunderstanding of the ever changing licensing rules;
Finally, a personal goal is to get to the end of January without a drink, but then again, there is a BCS meeting on the 10 th so that may just be a goal that I must accept I may (or should I say probably will) not achieve!!
Happy New Year to one and all.
