Welcome to the forum and the awesome world of IT Asset Management! :-)
From a software/software licensing point of view, a number of things that gets pushed to Software Asset Management, but shouldn't, includes things like digital certificates for websites, tv and radio licenses and also licenses for company logos.
To be fair, recently I've been getting anything that is a technology contract pushed my way, including some sort of building and maintenance contract, 45kg worth of materials (support contract to ensure they remain 'fresh'. Not technology!) and contracts big screen TVs (this probably would fall under ITAM, depending on what your organisation defines as ITAM!) which certainly isn't SAM or license management.
It just takes a bit of educating the business and defining what is and isn't within scope.
From your ITAM point of view, some hardware may not fall under your remit. Again, all depends on what you define as an 'asset'.
