With the introduction of Asset Management in the Jakarta release, Service Now are planning on being the lead player in Asset Management within the next 5 years.
The Service Now solution does not have an agent but has a “ Now Discovery” agentless tool or relies on the data collected by other agents such as SCCM which would work out of the box whilst other agents would need some level of configuration.
The “ Now Discovery” agentless tool does not collect usage data so this would have to come from other agents/sources such as Snow or other similar products. Service Now believe that many customers would however set parameters in SCCM to collect the metering data only for those products they wish to understand the usage and not for all products (as you get with other agents). This could be a large overhead in effort on a continual basis.
The Service Now offering can link with SCCM to uninstall software and re-harvest licences through the Service Now reclamation workflows that are already in place. This would require rules to be set-up and uninstall packages to be built in SCCM.
Service Now have acquired a normalisation tool to help with the automation of compliance validation.
There is limited functionality around subscription licensing now although this is planned for in subsequent releases.
