There is a stack of questions associated (as well as data) and its usually these that highlight inconsistencies.
Benefit to the Vendor - costs them nothing and the customer makes themselves non-compliant due to over-licensing.
Benefit to the Customer - very little without 3rd party support. However they could engage 3rd party to check their workings out and make sure they are not presenting their estate incorrectly or saying something that will get the vendor twitchy, which is a cheaper alternative to a full engagement.
