What is best practice for when the location should be updated on an asset shipped from one site to another?
What is best practice for when the location should be updated on an asset shipped from one site to another? There are currently two differing opinions in my workplace right now about when an asset should have the location updated on the asset record.
1) The originating site enters a note on the asset record with the tracking number and where it is going and the case, if applicable, is also updated. The receiving site then updates the location of the asset upon receipt.
2) The original site updates the location of the asset to the receiving site prior to shipment.
I am staunchly for the first method. However, I cannot find any concrete information on best practices in ITIL or anywhere else. Any help is appreciated.
