BSA SAM certification - is it worth it?
Hi - the BSA has been promoting their SAM certification for several year now; it is being touted as a way to both improve companies' readiness for software audits, and to improve the licensing relationship with their member vendors. This has included a 2 year waiver from audits by member vendors, and I have recollections that it also included "self audit" as a valid entitlement and usage position when vendors came knocking for an audit (after certification)....although this point no longer appears to be the case. The arrangement also includes appropriate SAM software management tools.
Does anyone have experience with this certification?
Do the vendors take any note of it, and significantly change/improve their behaviour towards customers as a result?
BSA don't have the tool 'for their advantage, rather than the customers'?
Interested in everyone's experiences, because if it lives up to potential in practice, would be really good; if not, would be a lot of invested effort for potentially large customer detriment.
Please let me know.
