An ITAM Review member is looking for clarification on the licensing terms around IBM Netcool Operations Insight Connection as to whether or not the licensing is per application or per connection for an application:
The LI: https://www-03.ibm.com/software/sla/sladb.nsf/lilookup/443608FFD9E46BE085258274004969CD?OpenDocument makes no reference to the product being directly licensed per application, but instead licensed per connection which in turn references an application. A connection is defined as “a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. A Connection is a link or association of a database, application, server, or any other type of device to the Program. Licensee must obtain entitlements for the total number of Connections which have been or are made to the Program”. Typically, the terms are vague, and the semantics could be argued.
Looking at the definition above in relation to an application such as Service Now which is a solution or suite made up of many different products, would you require a single licence for the connection to ServiceNow or a licence for each of the connections to the various modules of ServiceNow that are used within an environment?
Any views would be appreciated, particularly from anyone who has had to debate such issues (not necessarily for Netcool or Netcool connections to ServiceNow).
