A reader wishing to remain anonymous asks the following:
Is there somewhere that SaaS / Cloud outages are recorded for the public record?
Similar to what some sites do for internet / networks?
With more products, loads etc being ported from on-premise, and various availability promises being made but perhaps not contractually committed to as well as could be, this appears to be a missing piece of insight.
Would be useful for several purposes:
- validation of "availability promises/representations"
- quantification of outages to compare against on-prem TCO
- insight into appropriate penalties to be contracted.
- Backup to internal availability records (post implementation).
Seeing as these are now typically global services & outages, there would be a greater shared desire for such a service.
Any tools out there routinely recording this information? I guess one of the challenges might be that outages aren't always global, so not all customers would necessarily be affected. Sounds like a great feature request for a tool to me!
